Turf toe injuries are sprains to the big toe. These are sustained by both athletes and regular people who injure the toe secondary to excessive bending in an upward direction. Similar injuries include “Sand toe” and traumatic bunions. They each occur when the ligaments of the big toe are injured. Minor injuries are treated with rest, immobilization, and medicines such as anti-inflammatories. More significant injuries may require surgery to prevent chronic pain, loss of motion and deformity.
